Heligan Halterneck pattern details
Skill level: Advanced Beginner
Construction Method
The top is worked from the neckband down. Stitches are picked up along the neckband to work front and back pieces separately before joining them at the underarms and finishing the body in the round, or with 2 side slits.
First knit the neckband in 1x1 rib then work button bands on each end. Next pick up stitches along the cast on edge, ready to work the front piece. Increases are made in pattern until you reach the underarm, then place the front stitches on hold. Next pick up stitches to work the neck opening at the back. Each side is worked separately before joining as one piece. The back piece is continued with increases until the underarms where it is joined to the front piece. The body is continued in the round until the side slits where front and back are then split and worked separately. Each piece is continued flat to the hem.
