Why Choose Qing Fibre Yarn?

In short: Qing Fibre is for makers who want colour, texture and fibre to bring personality to a project. We hand-dye original colourways on carefully chosen natural fibres, then connect them with patterns, kits and bundles. Each skein carries the depth and variation of the dyeing process, as well as the human touch of the people who made it.
Colour, fibre and a little more possibility
Founded by Layla Yang in 2016, Qing Fibre is an independent hand-dyed yarn and knitwear design studio. The brand has grown, while the work remains closely connected to the people in our studios: from Layla's colour direction and our team's dyeing process to the patterns and projects we share. This gives each collection its own personality and point of view.
We work with Baby Suri Alpaca, superfine Merino, Cashmere, Yak and Silk. Every base is ethically sourced and Mulesing-free, chosen for the character it brings to colour and finished fabric. Colour and knitwear design are developed in our London studio, while our fully owned Beijing production studio gives us close oversight of each hand-dyed batch.
Colour, fibre and the way we work
Colour made for the finished fabric
A colourway never exists in isolation. Each base holds colour differently, so we think about fibre, sheen, halo, drape and stitch definition as we build a palette. We develop colour in layers, looking for depth, balance and movement in the finished fabric. This applies as much to wearable semi-solids as it does to bold variegated combinations.
Yarn bases with their own character
Each base brings something different to a project through its halo, sheen, drape and handle. Melted Baby Suri has a soft halo, warmth and airy texture. Yak Single gives colour extra depth and silk sheen. Veranita brings together feather-light Cashmere and Silk softness, while Merino Single lets clear, vivid colour take centre stage.

Yarn with a project in mind
Our knitting kits bring a design, yarn quantities and colour choices together in one place. Our kits and bundles include coordinated palettes, garment quantities, gifts and ways to try different yarns, while our patterns show how each yarn can be used.

Is Qing Fibre right for your project?
Qing Fibre may suit your project if you are looking for:
- hand-dyed yarn where expressive colour is central to the project;
- colour that ranges from balanced semi-solids to bold variegated combinations;
- Baby Suri Alpaca, Merino, Cashmere, Yak, Silk or other natural fibre blends;
- fluffy halo, deep colour, soft drape or an unusual tactile finish;
- yarn for shawls, sweaters, cardigans, accessories, fades or colourwork;
- a pattern-led kit, coordinated bundle or garment quantity;
- yarn for a special project or gift.
A few things to consider before choosing
Because each skein is hand dyed, some variation between skeins and batches is normal. If your project needs a close colour match, we recommend ordering enough yarn at the same time and alternating skeins where appropriate. For patterns with strict fibre, gauge or care requirements, check the current product details before choosing a base.
