The short answer: choose Melted Baby Suri for our signature airy warmth, Veranita for feather-light cashmere luxury, Super Floof DK for a quicker and fuller merino knit, or Kid Mohair Silk for a classic lace-weight halo with luminous silk.

Melted Baby Suri: our signature fluffy base

A Qing Fibre Melted Baby Suri knitting swatch

Melted Baby Suri is our signature and most-loved fluffy base: an exclusive blend developed especially for Qing Fibre. Baby Suri Alpaca creates the soft halo, Merino adds warmth and body, and Silk brings a subtle glow.

Its sport-weight body makes it far fuller than a typical lace-weight companion yarn. Knit it alone for a light but warm garment, or hold it with another base for a denser fabric. It is especially lovely when you want colour and fluff to take centre stage rather than crisp stitch definition, and it can be brushed for even more texture.

Choose Melted Baby Suri for: lightweight sweaters, shawls, soft accessories, expressive texture and projects where a dreamy haze is part of the design.

Veranita: feather-light cashmere and silk

Qing Fibre Veranita cashmere and silk yarn

Veranita is the most delicate and luxurious of the four. Its 79% Cashmere and 21% Silk blend feels exceptionally light, soft and drapey, while still showing speckles beautifully for such a fluffy base.

Use it alone for a very special, ethereal fabric, or hold it with another yarn to add warmth and softness without much weight. Cashmere is naturally temperature regulating, so Veranita works beautifully in light layers across the seasons. It is also our fluffy option for makers who prefer not to use mohair or Suri alpaca.

Choose Veranita for: delicate layers, luxurious shawls, soft details and projects where the lightest feel matters more than speed or structure.

Super Floof DK: warm, bright and quick to knit

Qing Fibre Super Floof DK brushed Merino yarn

Super Floof DK is made from 100% brushed Merino, giving you a fluffy finish without mohair or alpaca. It is warm, soft and more structured than our lace-weight bases, with the fuller DK weight making it a satisfyingly quick knit.

The brushed texture is forgiving, which makes it a friendly choice for newer knitters, and our colours stay bright and clear on the Merino base. It works beautifully for thicker sweaters, blankets, hats and statement scarves. You can even brush the finished fabric if you want to turn the floof up further.

Choose Super Floof DK for: quicker projects, cosy garments, fuller accessories, bold colour and a fluffy Merino alternative to mohair or alpaca.

Kid Mohair Silk: the classic luminous halo

Qing Fibre Kid Mohair Silk lace-weight yarn

Kid Mohair Silk is the classic pairing strand of the group. The fine Kid Mohair creates a floating halo, while its Mulberry Silk core adds strength and catches the light beautifully. This combination makes colour feel especially luminous.

Hold it with a smoother yarn to add softness, glow and a dreamy haze, or knit it alone for an airy, almost weightless fabric. Its fine lace weight also makes it a lovely choice for ruffles and delicate details.

Choose Kid Mohair Silk for: held-together projects, airy lace, ruffles, luminous colour and the finest traditional fluffy halo.

Can you swap one fluffy base for another?

Not always. These bases range from 110m to 420m per 50g, so they can change a pattern's gauge, fabric weight and drape dramatically. Melted Baby Suri and Super Floof DK create much fuller fabrics than Veranita or Kid Mohair Silk. Always compare metreage and the pattern's intended fabric, then make and wear a swatch before committing to the full project.

Fibre sensitivity is personal too. No yarn is universally itch-free, so a small next-to-skin swatch is the best test when you are choosing for a neckline, hat or close-fitting garment.
