The Pattern

The Slasher Shawlette is a striking mosaic colourwork shawl, designed as a classic, pointed symmetrical triangle that features the Screaming Ghost Motif.  Each colour is knit on its own, two rows at a time, making it an easy introduction to colourwork projects. The pattern is written for fingering and lace weight yarn held double: we recommend Dashing Sassy and Veranita or Kid Mohair Silk.

Difficulty: Adventurous Beginner/Intermediate.

Construction Method

This shawlette is worked sideways, beginning with an I-cord tab cast-on. It features an I-cord edging and a two-colour Mosaic Stitch. Only one colour is used at a time, worked across two full rows before switching. The shape is created by increasing along one edge until the shawlette reaches its widest point, after which matching decreases are worked to mirror the first half.

I was super excited to do this project, but apparently I misunderstood that there was actually not one but two slasher patterns!!
I thought I was ordering the double knit double sided pattern
Instead I got single mosaic (mosaic, I couldn’t understand why this mosaic knitting was being called double knit!) with suuuuper long floats that are totally unmanageable in the real world
My bad, I guess it was my fault for not being more careful with my selection, tho to be honest I never saw the two patterns together so never understood there were in fact two!
Better clarity from Qing maybe?

The pattern overall is great, there is a long section of floats, which would be nice if there is a tip on how to catch those or a reference to it.
Section 1 the dots are not staggered which they will be in section 2 would be awesome if they stagger from the beginning. (Personal preference)
I definitely will be knitting a few more Slashers, its a super fun knit

This is a stunning and fun pattern to knit!! I would recommend that some experience is required with doing many things at once, but once you get going it moves pretty quickly. I’d love to try a second one in a different weight!

Love the scream faces in the cloth. Looking forward to knitting this shawl.
