The Shadowplay Cardigan is our newest studio favourite, a double-sided, soft-as-clouds piece that feels different depending on which way you wear it. It’s a design full of contrast and texture…
Before you cast on, here are a few things we’ve learned in the studio that will make your Shadowplay journey smoother and more fun.
1. Test your colours both ways:
When choosing your colourway, make sure you know exactly which main and contrast colour look you want to go for. In the pattern, the RS (right side) is where the two colours are knit together, giving the textile a smoother finish. The WS (wrong side) is where the contrast colour creates a striped rib look.

2. Choose good stitch markers:
To make sure you have the easiest time counting your GSR's and increases, choose stitch markers that you can tell apart easily. You can see on the schematic below which stitch marker is for which section.

3. Test the stitch beforehand:
Testing out the stitch is not only important for choosing the colourway, but also to make sure you are comfortable with where the stitches need to go. It will be much easier to keep in track of your knitting once on the real piece, if the fundamental stitch is like home to you.

4. Do not shy away from techniques you haven't tried before!
The Shadowplay Cardigan uses a lot of differnet knitting techniques, all with its particular use. Even if it is your first time tackling german short rows or double knitting - don't let that discourage you from starting! If you have any questions, you are welcome to reach out to us.

5. Share your feedback with us
This is our BETA release, so your experience truly matters to us. If you notice anything that feels unclear or could be improved, please share your thoughts, you’ll receive the full updated pattern for free once it’s ready.
We hope these studio tips help you settle comfortably into your knitting journey.
