The Pattern
The Harlequin Fingerless Mitts pattern is worked in the Harlequin Mosaic colourwork stitch. Each colour is knit on its own, two rows at a time, making it an easy introduction to colourwork projects. The pattern is written for our Super Floof DK and Dashing Sassy yarn.
Difficulty: Adventurous Beginner/Intermediate.
Construction Method
The fingerless mittens are worked in the round, beginning with a 2×2 rib cuff. The harlequin mosaic stitch chart is worked across the front of the hand only, while slip-stitch stripes are worked on the palm side. This approach keeps the pattern simple, as the mosaic stitch does not need to be managed across the entire round. Increases are worked in the round to shape the thumb gusset. The work is then divided to knit the thumb, while the remaining stitches are placed on a stitch holder. Once the thumb is complete, the held stitches are returned to the needles and worked in the round to finish the hand section.
