Top 3 tips to take your knitting to the next level

Hello yarn lovers!

Now that Autumn is well and truly in full swing, we know that this time of year is particularly busy for those of you who may be crafting your next winter warmer. So we thought we'd share some of our top tips to help you take your knitting to the next level.

Whether you've taken a break over summer or getting ready to cast on some masterpieces for Christmas gifts, our tips are guaranteed to give your confidence a boost and make your skills the envy of your knitting circle.

Tip 1 - Always use good quality ingredients

Quality yarn almost certainly guarantees a quality product. If you're looking to advance your knitting skills it is extremely important to take a look at the material you work with. Take some time to do your research and don't be afraid to invest in a higher quality product. You'll be thankful you did when you see the end product!

Tip 2 - Practise makes perfection

Now you have decided to invest in quality yarn, you can use your old yarn to practise new techniques and experiment with new patterns before you start your new project. Learning tricks like knitting without looking or taking the time out to fix mistakes, are just some of the most useful common practises that will help you become an advanced knitter.

Tip 3 - Knit a gauge swatch

If you want your finished knit to come out a particular size or you're following a pattern, it's really important to knit a gauge swatch. It may be tempting to skip this step but swatching is pretty much essential if you want your knit to fit just right. Taking the time to swatch before you cast on will give you the perfect opportunity to familiarise yourself with your chosen yarn and will save you plenty of precious time trying to figure out why your garment doesn't fit or look how the pattern suggested. As they say, a stitch in time...
