International Women's Day - celebrating more creative women

Continuing on from our last blog, we have more creative women to share with you!

Happy International Women's Day to all the amazing women from all of us at Qing Fibre! As we are a small woman-led company, this International Women’s day we wanted to highlight and celebrate some of the amazing small businesses and creatives that are led by women. We reached out to our lovely followers and asked them to share their ventures and creations with us. It is so inspiring to see so many women following their dreams and passions, and bringing art and creativity into the world!

Em and Jess from Ellis and Low - Knitwear Brand

Ellis and Low is a startup luxury, sustainable knitwear brand created by two lifelong friends, Em and Jess. Our brand is named after our two glamorous Grandma's, Audrie Ellis and Lily Low, who taught us both how to knit at a young age. We create fun, contemporary, statement pieces using a fusion of our two design styles, taking inspiration from vintage knitting patterns, historical references and the natural world. Speaking of natural, we take a slow fashion approach using 100% wool and recyclable, plastic free packaging.

Charmaine Wombwell, aka Scarlet Shambles is multidisciplinary artist, whose work over the last decade has spanned music, clown (theatre and cabaret), visual art, textiles and motherhood. Based in London, Charmaine’s work is largely autobiographical, and currently uses colour and movement to express her experiences of pregnancy and early motherhood. Since the closing of live venues, Charmaine has turned her focus towards painting, knitting, and dyeing textiles, creating a vibrant, arresting and multi-textured practice.

Rachel B - Indie Hand-Dyed Yarn

I'm one of the UK's newest Indie Dyers - a Black Woman from Wolverhampton.
I started out with two roasting pans, a turkey baster no other plans than to have fun making a mess with colour! Fast forward through Lockdown parts 1, 2 and 3, and I have a small, small business that I juggle alongside working 9-5 in a busy office. FLYY Dyed is where I hand dye yarn - OOAK One Skein Wonders are my specialty; once they're gone they're gone for good! No two skeins are the same and I love custom dyes! Right now I'm having a lot of fun working on my first yarn collection. The #FLYYDyedSummerStash is available for pre-order right now at my website along with all the other fun, bright and beautiful things I've created!
You can also find me on Instagram trying to get my head around IG Shopping.
Oh - don't forget that the struggle is real and BLACK LIVES (will always) MATTER!
