In this tutorial, we'll be working with a beautiful lace knitting pattern, as seen on the frill of our Lolita skirt! This pattern features a combination of twisted stitches, decreases, yarn overs, and increases to create a graceful vine-like motif.
The stitch would be picked up at the hem of the skirt if working it into the skirt, however this pattern is just for a swatch for you to gauge the basic stitch, to then add to any of your future projects.

What Is Lace Knitting?
Lace knitting is a knitting technique known for creating deliberate "holes" within the fabric, strategically arranged to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
Lace patterns can take shape within various knitted fabrics, encompassing both stocking stitch and garter stitch, with stocking stitch being the most frequent choice.

What yarn is best for lace knitting?
Wool, alpaca, and various other animal fibre blends such as cashmere are lace knitting classics and great choices for lace knitting. We like to use Veranita, Wensleyhaze and Kid Mohair Silk when knitting lace patterns. Shop these collections on our website!

Please note, this pattern is knitted in the round
Cast on the desired amount of stitches in even numbers. I went for 90 stitches. Join in the round.
Row 1-4: Knit in stockinette stitch for the first 4 rows.
Round 5: *wyif sl1kw, wyib k1, psso* repeat the sequence between * - * until you reach the end of the round.
Round 6-7: Knit all stitches for rounds 6 and 7.
Round 8: *wyif sl1kw, wyib k1, psso* repeat the sequence between * - * to complete round 8.
Round 9: Knit all stitches.
Round 10: (k1, yo) repeat the sequence between * - * to the end of the round. This will create yarn overs that form eyelets in your lace.
Round 11: Knit all stitches.
Round 12: Knit front and back (kfb) into each stitch around the entire round. This is an increase round that will create additional stitches.
Round 13: Knit all stitches.
Repeat rounds 1-13 until your lace piece reaches your desired length. The combination of the different rounds will create a delicate pattern that gradually grows and twists within your knitting.
Finishing: After you've achieved the desired length, finish off your knitting with a few more rounds of knit stitches for a clean edge. Bind off tightly using your preferred method. Remember to weave in any loose ends using a tapestry needle.
