Construction
hese mittens are worked in the round, starting with the frill in stockinette, then decreasing and continuing with 1x1 rib for the cuff. The mitten hand is worked in stockinette in the round, alternating between the two colours to create the stripes. Stitches are put on hold for the thumb and a few new stitches are cast on, then the remaining fingers continue in striped stockinette stripe in the round, decreasing to shape the fingertips, finally using Kitchener stitch to join the tips together. The thumb is put back on the needles and a few new stitches are picked up, then it is worked in striped stockinette in the round, decreasing to shape the thumb tip, and finally Kitchener stitched closed.
