🎋 S/S24: Mud & Metamorphosis Collection

Introducing our S/S24 collection: Mud & Metamorphosis

Amidst the rippling waters, a quest for the origin. For it’s from the wellspring that life begins. Our journey unfolds from the enchantment of traditional mud dyeing to the pigments of classical Chinese ink painting. Many traditional art forms and artisan crafts have gradually drifted into the mists of time, requiring substantial time and seasoned artisans. However, the enduring spirit prevails, refusing to yield. Our new SS24 collection commences with mud dyeing, leading us to contemplate tradition. The chemical reaction between the iron in the soil and textiles in mud dyeing reminds us of traditional Chinese ink painting, where ink is made from metal and herbs.

Through these colours we journey through time, back to the roots -  reconnecting with nature.

Let's take a closer look...

S/S24: Mud & Metamorphosis

Cinnabar

Inspired by the startlingly bright mineral yielded from volcanic earth. Cinnabar has rich cultural traditions of being used as pigment in Chinese painting and calligraphy. In our interpretation of this the deepest red blooms across the yarn, giving way to warm beige and subtle speckles, mirroring the page of an old master putting brush to paper.

Chiyozuru

A versatile neutral full of speckles giving warmth and depth, Chiyozuru is one of those reliable colours you’ll find perfect for many projects. Inspired by the Japanese master craftsman who works simply and effectively, creating with great skill, objects that are valued for their practicality but which also hold surprising beauty. With its striking simplicity and mix of burnt orange and slate blue speckles we can imagine this colour being used in classic modern designs.

Clay

Earthy, rich and warm, we can’t wait to see this colour knitted up. Just on the cusp of being a bright orange, this shade can be toned up or down depending how you pair it. This is a friendly and confident colour, making us think of the earth warmed by the evening sun, full of promise and potential.

Lanterns

Conjuring the air of a spring day slowly turning to dusk. Lanterns hang from trees casting soft shadows among the leaves. Cheerful voices carry through the air as food is shared and the lengthening days are celebrated. The air is cooling but the twinkling lights and cosy festivities are too inviting for you to think of leaving yet.

Lanterns is a sweet, romantic colour full of intriguing greens, mauve’s and speckles of rich orange.

Reverence

These cool, calming blues, greens and dusky pinks speak of nature and our place within it. Life Giving yet indifferent to our stories. In parts dark, but still full of colour and life. Invoking the look and feeling of mindfulness when watching ink colours slowly spreading through water, blending into one another in harmony.

A quiet contemplation, deserving of reverence.

Fawn

Drawing from the colours of nature Fawn is a neutral yet vibrant colour. From soft, leafy green to radiant peach and through to rich dark black, echoing the tantalising dappled shade of the forest. Fawn brings us a sense of calm.

Orpiment

Named for the crystal formation of minerals forged in volcanoes and hot springs, orpiment has warm yellow tones throughout. Orpiment has been used in alchemy to create gold and was once used in traditional Chinese medicine, despite the fact that it can be toxic if mishandled. Orpiments' dark patches and mysterious speckles which counteract the warm yellows hint at this double edged nature. The perfect colour for creating depth, it will keep you intrigued with every stitch.

Chalk

Formed by the earth and traditionally used in everything from constructing houses to art, Chalk stone inspired this colour and both share subtle nuances within. Elegant and soft, this shade shifts and changes with the light, so you’re never quite sure - is it pink, purple, beige or something else entirely? A truly unique colour.

Zen

A dark yet soothing colour, Zen is all about being at peace with yourself and at one with the world around you. Zen is a sumptuous, saturated colour, grounding this collection of colours to the earth that inspired them. Perhaps not one you might expect for Spring time, once we dyed this it fit so perfectly into place, completing this group. Zen will become your go to deep red.

Bamboo

Sitting somewhere in between neon and neutral, we fell in love with this bamboo green. You can almost sense the dry yet smooth surface of the plant, adorned with a delicate veil of white dust. With a rich history of being used for both paper and charcoal as well as in textiles the Bamboo plant has long been utilised and appreciated. We can never have enough different shades of green yarn - this might be our favourite yet!
