The Many Ways to use our Super Floof DK

The Many Ways to use our Super Floof DK

In our last blogpost we introcuded our newest base - 100% Merino Super Floof DK. There are so many fun ways to use this fluffy yarn, we had to test some out in the studio. Here's four fun ways to work in our floof:

1. Brushing

When knitting this beanie from My Favourite Things Knitwear, we opted to use our new fluffy base instead of the Teddy. Using the Super Floof DK in Mayhem, the brim of the hat turned out super warm and fluffy, but we knew it could be taken to the next level.

Brushing the fabric with a metal tooth comb loosens the fluffy fiber and creates a beautiful halo. The colours blend even more, almost glowing on the hat.

2. Felting

Felting is a process of combining fibres which takes them from their original fluffy state to something more durable and rigid. It is usually done with felting needles, or by manipulaing the fabric with hot water.

We tested the felting method by adding 3D elements to a swatch. Using a felting needle, we secured the crocheted chain to the swatch, having precise control over where it lands. Just be careful not to poke yourself!

3. Combining bases

It is always interesting to see how two different bases interact when knit around each other. Here, we took the Super Floof DK in Raven and Merino DK in Soft Clay and knit them into a lovely diamond pattern.

The two bases get along really well, complimenting each others features. If your goal is to stand out, we advise picking colours that also contrast each other. If you like a more subtle surprise, pick the floof and solid base in the same colour.

4. Colourwork

In this swatch, we used Divination as the main colour and Moon Goddess as the contrast colour to knit up some diagonal and straight lines. The colourwork stands out and is the fluffy texture makes the edges blend into one another.

It is worth mentioning - like with any DK yarn, using the fair isle method adds a considerable amount of bulk to the fabric. This is perfect for any hats or mittens meant for colder climates!

What would you make with your first skein of floof? These new colours in the Super Floof DK and many other bases go live on 24th October, 9pm BST! 🍁

All swatches are knit with 4.5mm (US size 7).
